MOTIONLESS STATE 2004-7
These photographs depict myself resigned to a motionless state. The imagery portrays me alone, facing away from the camera so that I am an unrecognisable body. I have taken these photographs with a long shutter release cable or a self-timer function, evidence of which can sometimes be seen, emphasizing my isolation. The images give away the relationship between myself and the camera; snatched away fragments of time.
I lent myself to the rural land for short periods of time. There is the contradiction of the same state adopted within an urban environment where the images convey a sense of desolation, the hard ground unrelenting against my body. Sometimes, I am half hidden, sometimes my body misses the frame, the photographs are unstaged and unannounced.
